Battling the restraints of a time when married women couldn’t work or vote, finding her husband becomes a herculean task amongst piling debt. AFI Collaborations

Working with the prestigious AFI team of researchers, my work highlights the historical contributions BIPOC and female filmmakers in the American film industry. The American Film Institute Catalog of Feature Films represents a legacy of film scholarship beginning in 1968.

  • Researcher & Writer

As a hand-selected researcher, I was part of a team that researched 6,000 shorts, paying special attention to BIPOC and female filmmakers. I used primary sources to research lost and historic movies and write entries for the AFI catalog. My work was purchased by Turner Classic Movies (TCM) for web copy and used to introduce scheduled programs and movies. As part of our prestigious internship program, I taught college and graduate students to research lost and historical films. I also created and reviewed training materials for our department of professional catalog researchers and student interns.

  • Intern Researcher

Focused research about movies released from 1921 to 1925, adding the names of uncredited women in silent cinema. My work investigated the claim that gender parity was achieved behind the lens before the “talkies.” I conducted in-depth historical research with primary sources, and was formerly invited back as the first intern to become a member of the catalog team.
