Meet Stevie

Stevie is an award-winning screenwriter and an archival researcher.

As an archival researcher, Stevie contributed to the 2025 Kino Lorber Collection, Wonder Dogs! in collaboration with the Library of Congress. She worked with the American Film Institute on “Women They Talk About,” a groundbreaking study on gender parity during the silent era, and “Behind the Veil,” an investigation into the silent shorts of Hollywood’s earliest film pioneers. Funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the AFI catalog began featuring her research and catalog entries in 2021.

Stevie’s historical scholarship allows her to draw parallels between the past and the present, driving her to create nuanced, female-driven narratives. As a screenwriter, her work focuses on women who break the mold. Stevie’s writing is a 2026 FilmQuest selection and nominee. She was named a top-50 finalist by Launchpad, she is a two-time second rounder at Austin Film Festival, and she is a Filmmatic Inroads Fellowship semifinalist. Stevie’s work is supported by a master's degree in screenwriting from Stephens College, the second-oldest women's college in the United States.

AFI Collaborations

Working with the prestigious AFI research team, Stevie’s work highlights the historical contributions of BIPOC and female filmmakers in the American film industry. The American Film Institute Catalog of Feature Films reflects a legacy of film scholarship dating back to 1968.

Behind the Veil

Researcher & Cataloger

Stevie contributed to a major research initiative investigating the true beginnings of cinema: silent short films. In a landmark study, the catalog team hand-researched over 6,000 shorts using primary sources. Stevie’s work and catalog contributions focused on BIPOC and female filmmakers. As a leader of the prestigious internship program, Stevie taught college and graduate students to research lost and historical films. She also created and reviewed training materials and educational curriculum. “Behind the Veil” paved the way for a new era of scholarship, and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) purchased research and essays for the TCM database. The catalog essays and information were additionally used to introduce movies on the TCM channel.

Women They Talk About

Researcher

“Women They Talk About” was a groundbreaking gender parity Initiative at the AFI Catalog of Feature Films. Focused on analyzing women's contributions to silent films, Stevie researched movies released between 1921 and 1925. Supporting a deep investigation into silent films, her work investigated the claim that gender parity was achieved behind the lens before the “talkies.” Stevie conducted in-depth historical research on feature films, including the cast, crew, production, and release. During the research process, hundreds of female filmmakers were added to the AFI catalog. Research indicated that the silent era featured twice as many women writers as films made after 1933, underscoring women's foundational influence on the film industry.

Released in 2025 as Wonder Dogs! Canine Stars of the Silent Era, Stevie was an uncredited researcher for Anthony Slide’s contributions. She conducted detailed research for two silent-era films, 1926’s The Sign of the Claw and 1928’s The Sky Rider, for Kino Lorber’s DVD collection in collaboration with the Library of Congress. Her research involved locating primary source materials with biographical information, production history, and extant footage. Stevie’s research was compiled into essays and catalog entries for the AFI Catalog of Feature Films.

Spirited Women

Spirited Women, a 60-minute dramedy, follows a Seattle socialite who becomes a bootlegger during the prohibition to find her missing husband. Battling the restraints of a time when married women couldn’t work or vote, finding her husband becomes a Herculean task amid piling debt. Balancing crime, mystery, and a touch of comedy, "Spirited WOMEN" is a tonal combination of WEEDS and THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL.

Cultivation
